Most of the people who end up hiring me aren’t waiting for the perfect plan before they start. They build from the ground up, with ideas, energy, and grit, and they figure things out as they go. That’s always been close to how I work too.
At Lara Kroeker Interactive, I’ve collaborated with a wide range of people: small business owners, artists, nonprofits, founders building something that didn’t exist before they started. No two projects look the same, but the spirit underneath them does. A willingness to try something, adapt when it doesn’t work, and keep moving. Progress over perfection, every time.
Entrepreneurs and makers remind me that creativity doesn’t live in theory. It lives in action. They treat a challenge as part of the process instead of a reason to stop, and that’s taught me to stay curious, to value momentum over certainty, and to treat a mistake as information rather than a setback.
That’s the thinking day-rate work is built around. Focused, hands-on, and fast-moving, instead of long timelines and endless rounds of revision. I turn everything else off, sit down with the work, and build it with you watching it happen, not waiting on a proposal or a status update. The best ideas usually show up mid-session, in the room, when someone is actually in the work with me instead of reviewing it after the fact.
A founder whose online experience needed to finally sound like they actually talk. A small team that couldn’t wait three weeks for a proposal cycle before making a decision. A maker who had the idea fully formed and just needed someone to build it with them, not for them. Different problems, same shape: someone building something and needing a partner who moves at the same speed they do.
What I’ve learned most from working this way is that the output was never really the point. The connection is. When someone cares about what they’re building, that shows up in the work, and it raises what the work can be.
