Kristin Lehman directs for film and television. I planned, wireframed and built her site, it carried her work for years, and I have since moved it onto a current framework with a full set of Design Guidelines underneath it.
Kristin Lehman has thirty years in film and television, first as a leading actress and now as a director. She holds the distinction of being the first Canadian actress to headline, direct, and actively produce a Canadian network television show for four seasons. Her site is a working credibility document: the people who read it are casting and hiring, and they read it quickly.
The site did the heavy lifting for years. Moving it onto a current framework is what lets the next few years happen without starting over.
The upgrade is live at kristin-lehman.com and the design is indistinguishable from the version it replaced. That was the requirement rather than a compromise. Kristin has had a working site every day since the first one launched, and it has never taken an emergency rebuild to stay that way.
What she has now that she did not have before is a written record of her own visual identity, published, current, and hers. Forty-one named values, every one resolving, no loose colours anywhere in the stylesheet, and a guidelines page she can send to anyone making something on her behalf: a publicist, a festival, a designer cutting a poster, a network asking for assets. Before, that answer lived in my head and in a plugin’s database. Now it lives on a page with her name on it.
The relationship is the actual result. A site is not finished at launch, it is current, and staying current is a series of small planned passes rather than one expensive surprise. Kristin has never had to find someone new, re-explain her work, or pay for an emergency, because the person who planned and built it is the person hosting it and looking after it.
