ASK KSA Consulting

ASK KSA is Kirsten Albo’s professional development and practice-support business for public practice accountants, with a growing catalogue of courses, compliance workshops and file inspection services.

I designed and built the learning and e-commerce platform that supports that business, bringing the course experience, purchasing, visual system and underlying technology together in one custom online experience. Built with LearnDash and WooCommerce, it is deliberately clean and focused, with Kirsten’s professionally produced course content at the centre.

I’ve worked with Kirsten for years, so the platform has evolved alongside the business. What began with 17 courses has grown to 30 courses and more than 160 lesson pages, with sales coming in every week. The Design Guidelines, reusable course structure and custom build give Ask KSA a foundation that can keep evolving without having to start over as the business changes.

Challenge

ASK KSA had grown significantly, but the online experience underneath it had not kept pace. The course catalogue had expanded to the point where the existing page-builder setup was becoming difficult to maintain, and adding new courses meant working within a structure that had never been designed for a learning platform of this size.

The challenge was bigger than a redesign. ASK KSA needed an online experience that could handle the full journey from discovering a course to purchasing it and starting it, while giving Kirsten room to keep expanding the catalogue. With more than 160 lesson pages and regular course sales, the platform also needed to be dependable. Changes could not interrupt access for people who had already purchased professional development.

KSA Consulting isn't running on legacy tools anymore. The backend is fully current, robust, and built for whatever comes next.

Solution

I rebuilt the platform as one connected learning and e-commerce experience using LearnDash and WooCommerce, with a completely custom front end. The purchasing flow, course catalogue, individual courses and lesson experience were designed to work together rather than feeling like separate systems joined by plugins.

The structure underneath the platform was rebuilt around reusable course and lesson templates. Instead of designing each new course individually, the content now follows an established system that can accommodate new material as the catalogue grows. Thirteen new audit-engagement courses were added this year, taking ASK KSA from 17 courses to 30 without needing to rethink or rebuild the platform.

The visual experience was designed around Kirsten’s professionally produced course content. It is clean and deliberately restrained, with generous space, clear hierarchy and video at the centre of the learning experience. Videos display a still image first and load when someone chooses to play them, keeping course pages lighter while maintaining the quality of the experience.

I built the Design Guidelines alongside the platform so the visual rules and the online experience come from the same foundation. Typography, colour, spacing, hierarchy and interface decisions are documented and connected to the styles used on the live site. That same foundation can now carry into course launches, social content and whatever tools Ask KSA uses next, rather than recreating the visual system in each new place.

Because Ask KSA is actively selling courses, the work also extends beyond launch. The platform is hosted on Kinsta and changes are tested in a separate staging environment before going live. During the rebuild, that process caught a pricing error in a batch of new courses before customers encountered it. Existing URLs were also redirected during the transition so established links and search traffic continued to reach the right content.

ASK KSA now has a custom learning and e-commerce platform built around the way the business actually works. The catalogue has grown from 17 to 30 courses, more than 160 lesson pages are supported by a reusable structure, and customers can discover, purchase and begin professional development through one connected experience.

Just as importantly, the platform has room to keep changing. New courses fit into an established system, the Design Guidelines carry the visual direction beyond the site, and updates can be tested without putting an active storefront at risk. I continue to host and maintain the platform, so the person who designed and built the system is also the person looking after it as ASK KSA evolves.
