THE 2 WATER CONCRETE TANKS REPORT.
The work of building 2 concrete tanks finished on 1st April 2011, now the Cheku water project had this long life tools for storage 20,000liters each tank, for these 2 concrete tanks will have capacity of water storage 40,000 liters. By the time water will be pumped from water source the 40,000 of water will be go into the 2 water tanks. Cheku local community will be able to collect water from the tanks. Meanwhile the water collected by the short sunny or full sunny more water will be going into the tanks, depend on the switch on.
How these tanks build?
To start building the tank the engineer, and his team work, dug on a solid level well packed area and mark out circle of 2.05 meter radius using a string and deg a shallow cylindrical whole 10 cm deep. At cheku village the site is sandy so that they filled the hole with large stones, next step joined weld mesh or wire mesh and bind together at a form of round at the bottom size 2.05 meters and cut or size according the round above and before laying an the foundation is supplied a matter, (aggregated stones and sand and cement) on the foundation of stones filled at a height of 5 cm, and on the ready materials of this wire mesh, chicken wire is put on and to be filled inside aggregated stones, save and cement mixed together with water is poured inside at a height of 56 cm. The height of this prepared form of tank heights 1.80 meters. This tank is made round after finishing this stage of foundation they come to tight the tank with chicken wire on the weld mesh made round by using binding wire, after this they tighten with still wire around the tank and cover with empty bags to cover the whole tank. Then step by step hard work and very technical, they fix (ton) plaster inside the tank in 3 to 4days, when outside ready they had to remove the empty bags, this technical work shift to the outside with rough mixed cement together with water proof cements, final by the next day they softness the outside parts to make them very well looking and let dry with splashing water (MUST WETTING) to make them concretes, the process excellently done not less that 21days, outsides, insides and top up or cap of the tanks, this daily from the day finish. To the top cover or cap sides is done as the above explained also is round having king pole of 60 cm higher than inside wall. Through preparation of matter (raw materials for building tanks, is mixed with water proof powder per each bag.
The circumference is 3.82 meters that means radius of one of the concrete water tank is 1.91.
USAGE AND CLEANING.
The tank is excellent for storing water for the various uses for human especial drinking and animals etc, the concrete tanks is built on the ground; it is easy to withdraw the clear water by means of a tap in the floor of the tank. The tank can be built of many different seizers. The seizer described in detail here holds 20 cubic meters (20 m) or 20,000 liters
Easy to clean the tanks, in every 2 months the duty person can go into the tanks to clean, rinse every dirty inside of the tanks, by using 2 steers, one outside and second dropped inside can go very easy for the exercises. (2 steers are ready made by engineers) This will ensure the villages have clean water.
ENGINEER AND TEAM
The work done by an engineer, named Yussuf R. Sumu, quite long experience man built over 200 hundred similar tanks and riser tanks, he assisted by the aged man Mzee Saayu, as assistance engineer, he is retired water tank engineer from the Government, at Kondoa District water department. And team of 8 to 10 of skilled labours.
LIFE SPAN
According to an engineer these tanks is for very long life, life span is over 50 years and guaranteed us no any kind of water leakage, no any thing can destroy not very easy to broken, very hard to broke.
Conclusion…
For being a water project manager (in Country representative) I attended delay from the first day of the work of building 2 tanks, the work was not easy, very hard work and very technical way, which I couldn’t expect. I participated as well, Cheku local community participated very well, they worked in duty from sub village, next day others, but the others decided to volunteer daily due to the importance of the project, women worked very hard meantime asked to bring either water or sand, kids accompanied their parents during the work. Cheku school children done great work collected the Red bricks prepared by villagers for building Security house.
I agree the 2 tanks will be survive very long/ many years as recommended. No doubt that will be very helpful for the Cheku local communities not only that and other’s village too.
