THE PEOPLE I AM TALKING TO…
They are all entrepreneurs who are movers, shakers, innovators, change-makers, disrupters and creators. They don’t follow the beaten path; they blaze their own trail. They create films – questioning something about the world. They forge new paths and create industries where there was none before – like renee. She is a psychologist who focuses on the environment and how to change our thought process so that we don’t feel overwhelmed when we talk about environmental politics and is asked to speak at conferences around the world (and hired by google). They make things – like CineFocus who creates videos about the environment or greenhoroes who shine a light on people who are creating change in the world. Or the lawyer I did a site for who fights for 1st nations and communities.
I like them. Alot. Why? Because they are all just a little bit like me. They are interested in the environment and want to make a small footprint on the earth. They are generally a little older (35 – 55) and have been around the block. They have lived through life experiences, like marriages, breakups, parents getting older, successes and failures. Many of my clients have families. Some struggle financially but most don’t. They have kids who are going to universities now. They push their kids to be change makers too.
They like good food and good coffee. They drink craft beer. They like to hike (theoretically) and experience the world. They are well travelled and want to experience other cultured. Most love the arts and music. They are sympathetic to people who suffer – like refugees, or the homeless or bigger picture. They put their kids in the alternative schools because they know there is another way of learning.
The entrepreneur usually with small companies but have teams that they use for specific projects. They are no slouch and know the ropes in whatever they are doing. They get the grants. They have the broadcasters. They are asked to speak at conferences. People respect them. But uh oh. Their website SUCKS. It’s their calling card and they are embarrassed to hand it out. Lately they are not getting the grants and are being passed over because their sites look too old. They need to freshen up.This person has been running a business already and they are on the their next iteration of their website. They realize the value of clean and usable design because they are coming to me because their last website is all over the place.
They want to create and clean up their already existing online presence. They don’t have the graphic skills and they need me to make things look good.
AVATAR #2 The DIY peep who wants to take an online workshops (specifically someone who is releasing a film, TV series)
People who want to create a site for a film they are releasing, they want to talk about the environment and have a site that organizes all of the work they have done over the past (lots) of years. They have put all of their money into their film and now realize that they need a website and a strategy because online is important.
This group of people, believe it or not, are so out of the digital loop and they need help putting everything together for a strategy. The creative entrepreneur filmmaker, show etc. They are launching a show they have created or want to set themselves up as an expert and thought leader. They need a nice clean website but do not have the funds for a full build so they are going to have to do it themselves.
LOOK AND FEEL
I love this look and am trying to move towards it by integrating it with my current branding and color scheme. I really LOVE the look of this barber shop poster (which I bought: https://elements.envato.com/barber-shop-flyer-poster-AK6965). What I LOVE LOVE LOVE are the little line drawings on the barber poster. That is EXACTLY the look and feel I am going for so any other line drawing art kind of stuff like that is beautiful.
I use a google font called Roboto Slab and the script is pacifco which you can get free online (google fonts). I am also trying to find a nice script font (goggle fonts so it can be online) where I can pull text out as a featured element. These are other logos I use throughout the site for various things.
You can click through my website to get an idea of who I am and my design sensibilities. I like a little bit of texture while staying super professional and subtle. I love the little bird and am trying to find more element like this to add to things.
